The Mississippi Department of Education’s Division of Literacy is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the asynchronous course Enhancing Instructional Leadership: The Science of Reading and Effective Learning Walk Protocols. These elements include the application of structured literacy concepts, instructional strategies, classroom atmosphere, preparation with high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), writing instruction, and Tier 1 flexible teacher-led small groups.

By the end of this course, participants will develop a foundational understanding of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy practices, learn how to use the MDE K-3 Learning Walk Protocols as an observational tool to support teachers, and strengthen their ability to observe literacy instruction in the classroom to improve instructional practices.
