TIER 1 INSTRUCTION AND REMEDIATION (Morning): Tier 1 instruction forms the foundational layer for multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) or response to intervention (RTI) framework. This wholegroup session will provide an overview of the key components of effective tier one instruction with emphasis on its proactive and preventative nature. Teachers will choose two (2) of the following breakout sessions (Afternoon):

DON’T STOP! SCAFFOLD: Making Grade-Level Literacy Content Accessible for All equips educators with strategies to support struggling students, enhance scaffolding skills, and improve outcomes during Tier 1 instruction without replacing high-quality instructional materials.

ENHANCING CLASSROOM DIALOGUE with Oracy Routines explores elevation of oral language practices using oracy strategies. Participants will learn to create supportive environments, integrate oracy with high quality instructional materials, and foster meaningful dialogue that boosts student engagement and learning outcomes.

HIGH LEVEL PRACTICES That Promote Engagement And Learning In The Classroom explores the benefits of frequent responses, discusses response guidelines, and examines response strategies during explicit instruction while promoting student engagement.

Administrators will attend the following session (Afternoon): TOP 10 THINGS LITERACY LEADERS NEED TO KNOW This session explores the top ten Science of Reading-based insights literacy leaders should know. Participants will gain strategies to strengthen Tier 1 instruction through high quality instructional material, use data effectively, foster a culture of continuous professional learning, and drive sustainable literacy improvement across their schools and districts.

Miss. Const. Art. 4, Section 66 Eligible attendees for this training includes teachers, counselors, and administrators who are employed by a school district or MDE. Unless specifically noted otherwise, external contractors or vendors may not attend. This event is being funded with state and/or federal funds and is being provided for employees of school districts, employees of the Mississippi Department of Education and Department contractors. Miss. Const. Art. 4, Section 66 prohibits governing authorities from making donations. According to the Mississippi Attorney General, once the federal funds are turned over to the state, the rules for the expenditure of state funds apply. Based on the Mississippi law, this event is not being provided for third party vendors or external providers.
